“Come to Good” is titled after a small Cornish settlement of the same name, and refers to the emotional process that was undertaken during the making of these emotive paintings. Made during Nettle’s first Summer of living in Cornwall after a year away following a traumatic experience, the works tell of Nettle Grellier’s reconnection to both the body and the landscape.
Whilst nude figures in a rural setting have been a theme in her work for several years, the subject matter has now become more personal, and the sense of vulnerability at the core of this work has been easier for her to paint than to describe.
“There is immense freedom in unveiling feelings of shame and fear, rather than hiding them away.”
