Santiago Playing The Clarinet
Distemper and collage on paper
40 x 28 cm
"This work is based on several drawings made from observation of my partner practicing the clarinet outside on one of the first days of spring. It was one of those cold grey days, but there was a certain brightness as well as the primroses and daffodils to signify winter was losing its grip. I was thinking about imagery of the pied piper and also about pipers heralding arrival : the arrival of spring, Santiago's arrival in the rural British countryside (he is from Colombia), and his arrival in my life."
