Alivia Davis (b.1999) is a painter based in Louisiana. Her practice begins with a process of exploration and collection in swamps and abandoned places. The act of gathering imagery and objects is a ritual of collecting experiences that mirrored her emotional states. She then further investigates this subject matter through painting. External environments parallel the human mind and body. Predators and shadows embody a hauntingness, while other elements like tadpoles and eggs point to inner transformation. The work serves as an exploration of her identity and relationship to the environment.

"Shadow Portrait explores internal transformation and parallels between the human body and natural environment. Branches are bonelike and mimic neurons. The face cloaked in shadow reflects integration of Jung’s shadow self. Framing of inner and outer worlds reference the psychological nature of the work."
