Síomha Harrington explores themes of power dynamics, codependency and the intricate relationship between pleasure and pain. She paints using small, rigid brush strokes that mimic the feeling of control. Her work is mostly figurative and often features her own body, parts of which are exaggerated or manipulated in order to emphasise specific narratives – such as the relationship between the observer and observed. All of the subjects in her paintings are highly set-up and posed, which serves as a commentary on the ways in which people become trapped in a performative mode of being. Through her practice, Harrington processes and exerts control over her memories and experiences by blending them with play and performance.
